The NR750 engine was a bitchin' idea, but ring seals on an oval piston don't work very well... Hence, the RC30 and RC46 conventional piston V4 powered bikes.

They used them mostly for racing though right? So its not like they needed longer term reliability per say. Daily rebuilding. (forgive my ignorance on gp rules if im wrong)

Looking at oval pistons is like looking a rotary when you never seen one before. Its an enlightening feeling. Like, why didnt i think of doing that!

the valves act like it's a 4 stroke V8 but the pistons act like a 2 stroke V-twin.

good for 20,000rpm

In the end, it was a neat design excursion but made so many engine design details difficult that it wasn't worth the performance improvement.
